Staying up in the Phoenix area seemed a good option for the remainder of the winter as we are members of the Arizona Pastel Artists Assoc and the meetings are in the north section of Phoenix. We decided to pick a resort that had the full monty with swimming pools, spas, recreation and craft rooms, live entertainment and all the other amenities that resort parks offer. Sunrise RV Resort was a good choice for us. We like the gated security and the residents are very friendly and there is a little pet park for Alice and Ned. We haven't joined in much with the park activities yet although Allan soaks in the outdoor spa every evening getting all the resort gossip while I add a few puzzle pieces to the latest jigsaw puzzle in the library. Mostly we have been trying to take advantage of the classes and workshops put on by the local pastel artists. We just completed a one day workshop with Sue Hunter on illumination by adding a water color painting underneath the pastel painting and we are taking weekly classes with Nancy Clauss, a pastel artist in Scottsdale. Allan is making great strides in pastel which is relatively new for him as he usually works in oil. In the photo Allan is just beginning a new painting and Nancy is demonstrating with a new student in the background. Both of us started learning pastels with Angalee DeForest, a pastel artist in Rockport, Texas. I continued on in pastel and Allan went back to oil but has recently decided that pastel is a better medium for rv travel.
